Electrical components

As the rest of the boat i could choose the cheapest option , however if i do most of the parts will fail in the first year or so . i will be fitting good quality parts as standard so durite electrical gets the vote.

Battery Isolator – 100A at 24V and 500A

Battery isolator with removable key and splashproof cover. With independent ignition switching and controlled earth leakage through a resistor to avoid damage through load dumping. Rated 100 amps at 24 volts and 500 amps for 5 seconds. M10 studs.

Wiring diagrams will be uploaded for the different engine and spec.

windows and doors

Along with many other features the mallard will fitted as standard with caldwell windows

Framed Windows

“Clip-in and thermal break framed windows are industry-leading window designs which can be installed in a variety of vehicles. These styles offer the same design choices as the other styles but come with a wide range of benefits. For example, clip-in framed windows and thermal break windows can all be enhanced with double-glazing to keep your boat warm and comfortable.

Thermal break windows also work to eliminate condensation on the window, meaning that you don’t need to worry about limited visibility. Clip in windows also allow you to easily remove or replace the windowpane itself, while leaving the frame in place. This means you can remove the window to enjoy truly effective ventilation throughout your vehicle or as a means of escape in emergencies.”

other styles of windows are available including new and used    the doors will be made in the workshop from solid oak ,with glass panels.

Choosing your engine

This may sound strange but the sound of your engine makes a difference, some people like the sound of an old lister, others prefer engines quiet like canal line…whatever your preference, my saying is know your engine , if it breaks down you can fix it ,we just love fixing and tinkering with old oily […]

This may sound strange but the sound of your engine makes a difference, some people like the sound of an old lister, others prefer engines quiet like canal line…whatever your preference, my saying is know your engine , if it breaks down you can fix it ,we just love fixing and tinkering with old oily stuff.

So the range of engine types is vast , however i am finding it difficult to find a good supply of recon engines which is my prefered aim because the parts are widely available its better for the environment reusing something.

new engines might be the answer for some people i am going to price a brand new canal line engine 25 hp which are low torque and very quiet as the boat only weighs 2 2 tonne i might have to evaluate that at a later date.

I will post some engines videos later so you can hear them running .

I started a conversation with vetus,

Following our telephone conversation yesterday – please could you let me know your address and I will arrange for a catalogue to be sent out. In the meantime I will start to price up the 2cyl Diesel engine in keel cooled spec and raw water cooled. As I said over the phone, we can offer a complete boat package including stern gear, controls, cable, water separator for example. This benefits you and the end customer by having only one company to deal with. We offer 5 year warranty on the engine and 3 years on all equipment.

Enjoy the Winter

Most boats on the rivers are taken out over the winter on slipways, to avoid any damage from floods and general winter weather, narrowboats normally stay on the river and canal marinas,if you intend to stay on your boat during these times be prepared ,when the canal is frozen and your miles from anywhere .
